It appears the older versions of boot code do not like the 1.2+ firmware. The easiest way to get back normal operation of the switch is, as stated above. Load an older rev of the firmware through the serial port with Xmodem.

Once you have an operating switch, you can then load the newest rev of boot code, reboot, then load (through serial again) the latest 1.2+ firmware. I was successfully able to downgrade back to 1.00.86 using the XMODEM method and breaking the loop after the POST. I did not have access to a LinkSys cable. I first tried a serial cable, then a null modem cable and finally had to build a custom cable to connect to the console port. Pinouts are 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9. The LinkSys site redirects to Cisco when you search for the SRW2024. The Cisco site allows you to download 3 versions of the firmware, but I cannot find anywhere to download the boot code.

OK I upgraded my srw2016 with out any problems and with out needing the console or telnet step one get the files runtop_boot-101.rfb and ls20xx-12230.
